Having read ‘The Shaping of America’ I was naturally intrigued by the mentioning of the European settlers. One excerpt states that a Scottish majority inhabited the Chesapeake region. This is very typical of what would happen even today, as there is much resentment from the English towards the Scottish and vice-versa – I suspect the English pushed the Scottish out of the original settling (in fact the Scots may have volunteered to go!).
Thus my question is double edged. Are there still people of Scottish descent in Chesapeake? And more broadly, are there settlements in Virginia where there are more descendants of other nationalities that have remained there?
