One thing that I found interesting in The Shaping of America was the religious history of Maryland. Many colonists first came to America looking for religious sanctuary, yet once here, it seemed to fade into the background. Even though Maryland was not meant to be a Roman Catholic refuge, many did choose to emigrate to the area. My question is why did the colonists choose to adopt a new prominent regional identity, and why most chose to merge with the overarching regional patterns.
